What's Your Secret Weapon?

Uncategorized Apr 22, 2021

I’ve been a bit unmoored this week.  Some surprise new urgent tasks were thrown at me related to my late dad’s estate. And it left me breathless and resentful and EXHAUSTED.

Ever have a week like that?

Then today the sun came out. I felt better already just looking out the window at the cardinals. And the new buds on our cherry trees.

I sat down to write in my journal and set my intentions for the day.   (Guess what practice I had neglected in the first half of the week due to my state of overwhelm?)   And I decided it was time to pull out my secret weapon.

So I pulled a goddess card from my deck!  Yup.  I do that sometimes.

Sounds kinda new age-y and something I would have laughed at only a few years back.  I would have felt embarrassed to share with you that I actually like and enjoy this activity  - that I have a spiritual side. After all, we’re supposed to be all professional and such, right?

Since a friend introduced me to the concept of goddess cards, I find them to be extremely useful and fun. They help get me into a reflection and intentional mood before I write or do important work that requires a lot of focus, or before  a courageous conversation that I’ve been worrying about.

These beautiful “fluffy” cards actually help me be MORE professional.  They help me show up in the way I want to show up.   (Message me if you want to know where I got my deck - or if you want to share  YOUR secret weapon)

Anyhoo..

The card I pulled today was GAIA - The goddess of Earth.

It begins: “Being grounded, slowing down, and remaining present in your body is the message that the Greek goddess Gaia has for you right now. “

Just the reminder I needed.

After I wrote for a while, I closed my journal and opened my calendar to get on with my day.  And I realized (I am NOT making this up) -  today is EARTH day!

Let’s celebrate this beautiful planet today.  Let’s respect it. Connect to it. Pick up some litter.  Conserve some water.  Hug a tree.  Pat an earthworm.  Embrace our spirituality AND our connectedness to the earth.  Eat slowly with gratitude. Listen for the birdsong.  Whatever works for you!

At the very least, I invite you to reflect on Gaia’s message - how can you be grounded and present today?
